"Rain, Rain, Go Away. . ."

Yikes!  More rain!  It seems like the last three weeks we have had nothing but clouds and rain.  Today we are getting rain from Beryl.  This last rain may be too much for our vegetable garden!

5" Of Rain!

We got 5" of rain last night!  Thunder, lightning and hail - oh my!  The wind blew - it was almost as bad as Irene last year.  Some streets are flooded this morning and blocked off.  It was tedious getting to work.  Flash backs of Hurricane Floyd's flooding in 1999.  Who woulda thunk?!?

Waters Family Genealogy

Mike's paternal grandmother was a Waters from Pinetown.  The Waters family has a bi-annual family reunion every July.  So, in July 2010, I created charts with all the descendants of Thomas Isaiah Waters and his two wives.  Folks attending the event updated information on the charts that we hung to the wall.

My job was to update the charts by this July, 2012.  For the last few days I have been attempting to do so.  I moved the family tree from the ancestry software to ancestry.com (because I was afraid my laptop was getting ready to crash!)

Problem is:  ancestry.com will not let me print but four generation of descendants at one time.  In some cases, I need about six.  I see a lot of work getting these charts done by July.

I am excited, though.  I found obits for many of Mike's grandmother's siblings and her mother.  This is such a wonderful find and I know everyone at the reunion this year will enjoy reading them.

Stay tune for pictures!  I will take lots at the family reunion!

Quilting

I am part of a quilting group that meets in Raleigh once a month.  We try to complete four blocks each month (homework) and bring them back for show and tell.

All of us bring Civil War reproduction material to share.  It is always fun to pick out our color combinations.  I love seeing all the different fabric and making my selections each month.  Since we all pick different materials, all of our blocks look different.  The blocks have names - but I change them to suit my block.  For instance, I call one of my blocks "Dead Flower" as the purple colors have a lot of brown in them.  Therefore, I think my flower is past its prime.  Anyway (!) - it is fun and we have a great group of ladies that meet every month.

When we finish, we will have 83 blocks.  It is a "mystery quilt" since we do not know what the entire quilt will look like when we are through making all the blocks.

However, Sharon Stewart, is so far ahead of most of us, we are beginning to get a better idea.

Here are the four blocks I finished last month:

Since we are in "Pirate Country," I tend to use more purples and yellow/golds than the other ladies.  Therefore, I often have some unusual color combinations.

Bridal Shower

Went to a bridal shower on Saturday for my nephew and his future wife.  It was very nice seeing the happy couple, seeing how happy they were and looking at all their gifts.  Everyone had a great time!

Steven and Anna Frances - the happy couple!

What would a shower be without  some help from a little one?  Asa hung in there until all the gifts were opened and then she found a box to hide in.
